Terms & Conditions

Effective Date: January 1, 2021 Last Updated: September 15, 2026

Welcome to www.thornsandall.com (the "Site"), operated by Building Happiness LLC ("we," "us," "our"). These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Site and the services offered through it, including individual and couples therapy services and 1:1 life coaching services (together, the "Services"). By accessing the Site or booking a Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Overview of Services

We offer two distinct categories of service:

1.1 Therapy Services Individual and couples psychotherapy provided by Jen King, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed in Connecticut. Therapy services are clinical in nature and are subject to applicable state licensure laws, confidentiality protections (including HIPAA, where applicable), and professional standards of care. Therapy services are only available to clients who are physically located in Connecticut at the time of each session, as state licensure law generally requires a clinician to be licensed in the state where the client is located during treatment.

1.2 Coaching Services Life coaching services offered through Building Happiness: Thorns & All. Coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy, medical care, or mental health treatment. Coaching is not regulated by state licensure boards in the same manner as clinical therapy, and coaching sessions are not subject to the same confidentiality protections as therapy sessions unless otherwise stated in a signed coaching agreement.

Clients should understand which service they are booking and the distinctions between them. If you are uncertain which service is appropriate for your needs, please contact us before booking.

2. Booking & Scheduling
  • All sessions must be booked through the Site's online scheduling system or by direct arrangement with the practitioner.

  • You agree to provide accurate and current contact and billing information when booking.

  • Session availability is subject to change without notice.

  • Therapy services are only available to clients who are physically located in Connecticut at the time of each session.

3. Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
  • Therapy Services: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled session. Late cancellations or no-shows will be subject to a fee of $100.

  • Coaching Services: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled session. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee equal to the full cost of the session.

  • Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in a requirement to prepay for future sessions or termination of the client relationship.

4. Payment Terms
  • Fees for each Service are listed on the Site or provided at the time of booking.

  • Payment is due at the time of session.

  • We accept electronic payments via Stripe.

  • Superbills available upon request. No insurances are accepted for therapy services.

  • Therapy services are offered on a sliding scale. Clients select the fee that works best for them, within a range of $100–$150 per session. Fee and clinical reviews are conducted annually, and clients will be notified in advance of any resulting changes. Outside of these annual reviews, fees remain in place unless the client initiates a conversation regarding financial hardship.

  • Coaching session fees vary depending on whether the client is booking 1:1 sessions, couple/polycule sessions, or a purchased package.

5. Confidentiality

5.1 Therapy Services Information shared during therapy sessions is confidential and protected under applicable state and federal law, including HIPAA where applicable. Exceptions to confidentiality (e.g., mandated reporting, risk of harm to self or others, court order) will be disclosed to clients in a separate informed consent document provided before the first session.

5.2 Coaching Services Coaching sessions are treated as confidential as a matter of professional practice; however, coaching does not carry the same legal confidentiality protections as licensed therapy. Details of the scope and limits of confidentiality for coaching are outlined in the separate Coaching Agreement provided to clients before their first session.

6. Informed Consent

Prior to beginning services, clients will be asked to review and sign a service-specific informed consent or coaching agreement document. These Terms do not replace that document; where a conflict exists between these Terms and a signed informed consent or coaching agreement, the signed agreement will govern for that specific service.

7. Telehealth / Virtual Services
  • Therapy sessions will be conducted via a secure video conferencing platform that is part of the clinician's EHR and is HIPAA-compliant.

  • Coaching sessions are held via Zoom or similar virtual meeting platforms.

  • Clients are responsible for ensuring a private, confidential space and stable internet connection for sessions.

8. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Coaching and therapy are collaborative processes, and outcomes vary by individual. We do not guarantee specific results from either Service.

9. Emergency Situations

Neither coaching nor virtual therapy sessions are appropriate for crisis intervention. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the U.S.). LGBTQIA+ clients may also reach the Trevor Project (call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678) or Trans Lifeline (877-565-8860), both of which offer crisis support specific to LGBTQIA+ experiences.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Building Happiness LLC and its practitioners are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Site or Services.
